What is a Cat Café?
We’re so glad you asked! A Cat Café is a unique space where guests can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while interacting with friendly and adoptable cats. It’s a cozy and relaxing environment that offers a chance to unwind and spend quality time with these adorable, adoptable feline companions. Auburn Valley Humane Society Cat Café supports the organization’s mission to provide a temporary home for the cats, allowing them to socialize and find their furrrever homes. It’s a purr-fect place for cat lovers to enjoy the company of cats while supporting a good cause!
Although our cats are sweet, social, and healthy, all visitors must sign a waiver stating they understand the possible health risks of being around cats before entering the cat lounge area. The waiver lists all of our rules and regulations.
Guidelines for Visiting the AVHS Cat CafÉ
Visitors must make appointments by visiting the AVHS Cat Café page on the AVHS website. If booking a group of more than 4 people, please call the Café (253-205-0956) to schedule.
All visitors must sign our AVHS Cat Café waiver.
The visit fee is per person.
For any child 18 or younger, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver form.
When your visit includes children, we require one adult for every two children under the age of 12. Please do not bring strollers into the cat enclosures.
Cats are not permitted anywhere except the designated cat enclosures.
Please be kind to the kitties by not restricting their movement if they try to get away.
Please respect the kitties by not chasing, yelling, climbing, or running in their space.
Please be considerate of the kitties by gently petting them.
Please do not pick them up or walk around with them. They can be held on your lap if they come to you.
Please be mindful and watch your drinks while inside the cat rooms. Please do not remove lids and straws from cups while inside the cat rooms. While food is not permitted in the cat rooms, snacks may be enjoyed at the tables just outside the Cat Café!
The Cat Café provides all toys for playing with the kitties.
If you see any kitties fighting, please do not attempt to help. Our staff members are monitoring all kitty behavior.
Please refrain from bringing any outside animals or food into the Cat Café.
The booking fee is $20 per person for a 60-minute booking. For walk-in-only customers, there is a $10 per person fee for a 30-minute session.

Questions You May Have Coming to our Cat Café
CAN I BRING MY CAT OR OTHER PETS TO THE AVHS CAT CAFÉ?
We know you love your pets, but unfortunately, no – the space has been set up for the adoptable cats at the café. The cat lounge is a controlled space and a carefully maintained environment. The cats have all been screened and carefully checked for medical conditions. For these reasons and for the safety of other animals, we do not allow other animals inside the Cat Café.
WHERE DO THE CATS GO OVERNIGHT?
The cats sleep in the café's enclosures until they go to their furrrrever home! You will find them curled up in a window or their favorite bed!
DO I NEED A RESERVATION TO VISIT THE CATS AT THE AVHS CAT CAFÉ?
Appointments can be made by visiting the AVHS Cat Café page on our website. We can accept walk-ins where space allows. Walk-in appointments and payment can be made in-store only.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO VISIT THE CATS AT THE AVHS CAT CAFÉ?
Our visit fees for the cat lounge are $20 per person for one-hour time slots. A 30-minute walk-in-only visit will be accommodated as appointment space allows, and visitors will still need to sign the online waiver. A $10 per person visit fee is for the 30-minute walk-in-only visits. Walk-in visits are first come, first served and must be scheduled in person. Wednesday is our Donation Day! On Wednesday, you may come into the Cafe and check for any walk-in space in person. Your monetary donation will be made at the Cat Café at the time of your visit. Online bookings are not available for Wednesdays.
There is no charge to stop by the AVHS Cat Café and view the cats from the lobby area or grab a coffee, an es-purrr-esso, or a snack.
WHY DO YOU CHARGE A VISIT FEE AT THE AVHS CAT CAFÉ?
The visit fee helps to cover our operating costs and provides value to visitors who wish to enjoy the space, spend time with the cats in a fun environment, and participate in events. It also helps us keep a roof over our kitties’ heads and allows us to help more animals in need! The model has worked in many places across the country and other countries.
Do you have gift cards?
We have AVHS Gift Cards available to purchase in the Café. Gift Cards may be used to purchase any item in the Café including walk-in appointments. If you wish to use a Gift Card for a scheduled appointment, please call the Café to schedule and let them know you’ll be paying with a Gift Card.
Gift Cards cannot be used for online bookings at this time.
DO YOU ACCEPT LOST OR CATS NO LONGER WANTED BY THEIR OWNERS AT THE AVHS CAT CAFÉ?
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept lost cats or cats no longer wanted by their owners at this location. If a lost cat is found in the Auburn City Limits, we recommend that you take it to the Auburn Valley Humane Society Animal Shelter. If the cat is found outside of Auburn City Limits, please ask an employee or call AVHS at 253-249-7849. They will provide you with the resources on where you may take the lost kitty. Those who have cats that they no longer want may also call Auburn Valley Humane Society shelter to inquire about re-homing them through our adoption program. Once lost cats in our care have been vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered, they may return to the Cat Café for adoption.
I FELL IN LOVE WITH A KITTY AT THE AVHS CAT CAFÉ... HOW DO I ADOPT?
Once you come into the AVHS Cat Café and see a cat that steals your heart, one of our staff members will sit with you and explain the adoption basics. You will fill out an adoption application. Once your adoption application is approved, you can take your new furrrever friend home. All of the cats and kittens are the property of Auburn Valley Humane Society until you adopt them. All adopted cats from AVHS will come with a complete medical folder with as much of their history as we have, or they have told us during their stay with us. In most cases, same-day adoption will not be available. We will schedule a day to pick up your pet within approximately a week!
IS THERE A FEE FOR ADOPTION AT THE AVHS CAT CAFÉ?
AVHS adoption fees are $95 for cats over 10 months old. Kittens between 2-9 months are $225, and senior cats over 7 years are $25. There may also be a $30 fee for an Auburn pet license, depending on whether you are a City of Auburn resident. When adopted, all adopted cats must leave the Cat Café in a carrier. Adopters can bring their own carrier on the day of pickup, or we have carriers available for purchase starting at $10. All of our cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before coming to our Cat Café. You will also receive coupons and a first free vet visit.
